We all tell ourselves stories continually. That is part of the way that we generate the thoughts and feelings that allow us to do all of the things that we do. For instance you may have got out of bed this morning not feeling one hundred percent. Perhaps you asked yourself, ?am I too sick to go to work?? If your truthful answer was ?marginal?, you may then have made up a story to explain to your team leader that you were too sick to work. For instance: ?when I got up this morning I had this rasping sore throat and I feel highly feverish?.
The more often we use these stories the easier we find it to believe in the truth of the story. In the ?sore throat? example above you might be croaking as you speak to your boss on the telefone to elucidate why it is you are not coming to work today.
Most of the time we create stories to excuse ourselves or to elucidate our unacceptable performance to ourselves and others. But you are able to use stories in a much more positive way. You can write stories about the self-confidence you feel. If you write a good self confidence story and keep telling yourself that story you will, in time, find that you begin to feel self-confident.
The trick to writing a good story is to construct it in three parts, the past, the present and the future. For example, ?I used to suffer from a dearth of self-confidence, but now I feel assured all of the time, I know that now that I have found my self confidence I can always feel assured in the future?.
The other part of the way of becoming self-confident is to learn your story by heart and to keep telling yourself the very same story constantly. Never vary your story and make it your habit to always repeat your story at least four times a day at the same times.
Imagine a precision instrument that records the actions, words and feelings of the best performers. Then download that data to a powerful decoder that analyses and codes the behaviour. Transfer the code to your personal control panel so that you can reproduce excellence and self confidence at will. This is how NLP Techniques work. NLP Practitioner David Ferrers will show you how to build your own control panel during Business Coaching, or at one of his his Sales Success Sales Training workshops.
