The Harrison baseball team booked their second trip to the Section I Championship Game in three years yesterday as the Huskies beat Kennedy Catholic 8-0 at home.

Max Bruckner pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out five as he got the win, giving up four hits and a walk.

Shang-Li Polera continues to be one of the hottest hitters in Section I as he went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Raffaele Macchia and Austin Pollack each picked up two RBI in the win.

Highlights: Paulina Gutkin led the way for Tappan Zee as she struck out 11 in the win. Senior Alyx Scapperotti scored the lone run for Harrison in the loss.

Jaspers Sparkle Again:

Manhattan College is the MAAC Baseball Champion, again. The Jaspers completed the improbable feat of winning four games in three days to come out of the elimination bracket and win the program?s second straight conference title. The Jaspers finished off a remarkable run with a 3-2 victory over Canisius (33-27) in 11 innings at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy. Manhattan juniors Joe Rock of Carmel and Kennedy Catholic, Ramon Ortega?of Miami, FL, Brendan Slattery of Danbury, CT, and Nick Camastro of Lagrangeville were named to the MAAC all-Tournament Team. Rock, an alum of Kennedy Catholic HS, smashed the game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday to help the Jaspers avoid elimination against Canisius. The Jaspers (33-25) earned their fourth berth into the NCAA Tournament in program history.

• Assistant coach Priscilla Edwards, who helped guide the St. Bonaventure University women?s basketball team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, has accepted the same position at St. John?s University. Edwards and head coach Jim Crowley led the Bonnies to a program-best 31 victories. Sparked by junior guard Alaina Walker of Pomona, an alumna of Albertus Magnus, the Bonnies advanced to the Sweet 16 before being eliminated.
• Pitcher Chris Rubio was placed on the disabled list by the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League, retroactive to May 23. The Boulders, who were visiting the New Jersey Jackals for a game at 11:05 a.m. today, added outfielder Chris Valencia, a 2005 draft pick of the Yankees, to the 22-man active roster. The Boulders and Jackals meet again on Thursday night at 7:05 before Rockland returns home Friday night for a scheduled three-game weekend series against the Quebec Les Capitales at Provident Bank Park in Pomona.
• The Manhattan College baseball team worked out on Tuesday before departing for the NCAA Tournament, traveling to the Columbia Regional to face 2011 national champion South Carolina (40-17) on Friday at 4 p.m. The game, in Columbia, SC, will be televised on ESPNU. The Jaspers (33-25) were the only team in the country to post an undefeated home record, going 18-0 at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale. Key members on the club include rookie hurler Mike Scarinci of Nanuet, senior hurler Mike Giordano of Bedford, and junior outfielder Joe Rock of Carmel.
