Ottawa police union raising charity money

The Ottawa Police Benevolent & Protective Association union is seeking donations for its shopping program for needy youngsters.

Telemarketers are reaching out to residents to give money for the local union's charitable projects, including its Back to School Shopping program, which provides less fortunate children with basic items for school. Besides helping the needy, the program's aim is to promote good relations between youths and police.

Anyone wishing to donate directly can drop off donations at the police station, 301 W. Lafayette St., or by mail: Ottawa Police Benevolent & Protective Association, 301 W. Lafayette St., Ottawa, IL 61350.

For questions about the legitimacy of a donation request, call police at 815-433-2131 to verify.
