MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) ? Alabama union members are being deployed elsewhere in an effort to help re-elect Democratic President Barack Obama.
The Tuscaloosa News reports that the workers are being sent to other states since Alabama almost certainly will be in the GOP column on Nov. 6 for the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan ticket.
Alabama has not voted for a Democratic president since Jimmy Carter in 1976, so Republicans and Democrats from the state are bolstering efforts in the more closely contested states in the South.
Alabama union members are in Florida and North Carolina and likely will remain there through the election.
