Rudy Giuliani Is Also Not Running for President (The Atlantic Wire)

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie always grabs headlines when his name is mentioned in connection with the 2012 presidential race. Perhaps that's what Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York and a 2008 Republican candidate, had in mind when he announced he also wouldn't participate in this year's contest. "If it's too late for Chris Christie, it's too late for me," Giuliani said, according to Politico. Giuliani's staff had teased the idea of a 2012 run as recently as late September, but his announcement at a Long Island Association event that he would stay out of it seemed final. He hasn't endorsed anybody yet, but according to Politico's source, he hinted he "might be partial" to Rick Perry, as Perry had backed Giuliani previously. But his money may be heading elsewhere. Politico also notes, "It had become clear that Giuliani was not planning to run again, as some of his former and closest supporters have started moving toward Mitt Romney."

The Role of Information Technology in Business | Internet Technology

IT (Information technology) provides commercial and industrial systems for businesses. These systems enable businesses to function effectively and efficiently.

The use of information technology systems in a business environment can be classified into four broad categories, namely, function, communication, management and enterprise.

Function IT Systems

These applications allow individuals to function effectively in the workplace. Examples of these systems are word processors, spreadsheets, statistical analysis software and computer aided design (CAD). Employees can work and perform their task individually or collectively using these software technologies.

Network IT Systems

Network IT allow effective communication within and outside an organisation. Examples range from simple e-mail (electronic mail) to blogs, wiki, IM (instant messaging) and electronic conferencing. These technologies promote interaction and collaboration among working groups and also facilitate quick information flow at all levels.

Management IT systems

MITS is a planned application that is designed to process data and transform it into useful information for management decision making.

In general, MIS are subsets of Enterprise IT systems. However, because of the vital role MIS play in a business environment, it is considered here as a major information technology for businesses.

Management operates at different levels and so it is possible to apply management information systems at these varied levels.

Basic examples of management information systems are human resources management systems, financial management information systems and marketing management information systems.

Enterprise IT Systems

Enterprise IT systems are technologies designed to integrate and manage entire business processes for large organisations. Typically, enterprise application software is hosted on large servers over a computer network. Transmission of information can either be internal or external.

Examples of enterprise information systems may be accounting software, health care specific software or electronic data Interchange (EDI). Another example of software within this category is CRM (Customer relationship management software).

Information technology plays various roles in business, and provides a huge range of capabilities that enhance management performance. It is therefore important to understand the four major categories of IT systems and their functions in a business environment.

Online or internet marketing involves offering and promoting your services or products on the internet. You will learn in this article some helpful ideas for starting or expanding your own internet marketing business.

When you become an internet marketer you have to decide whether you want to create and sell products of your own or sell affiliate products that you earn commissions on. There?s one important point to remember if you?re going to create your own products. Many people who purchase items online do so because they have a particular problem they hope can be solved. Aside from this, however, many shoppers are motivated by a strong desire to possess something that makes them feel cool or hip. If you can find a way to package and market your product in a unique way, people will prefer it to other products whose features may not be any different from yours. How your product appears to the public is something you have to think about quite a bit. The fact is, the packaging and presentation of your product is often what makes someone decide to buy or not buy it. You may have created a truly helpful and unique product. Yet if your presentation is not attractive or enticing, you are going to have a hard time marketing it. So what exactly do we mean by packaging here? It?s about making your product visually appealing in every possible way. Even though customers can?t touch your products as they can in a store, you can present them in a way that gives them a satisfying visual image. This process has to start with your website or sales letter, which should have attractive header graphics, a tempting order button and your product presented in a professional looking e-cover graphic. Investing in making your product look professional will go a long way because it would positively enhance its image. Your prospects will then feel compelled to click on your order button. So make sure you?re packaging it well because you won?t want to any stones unturned.

As in any business, you need to keep growing and moving forward. You will need to continually focus on where the industry goes and stay up to date on new strategies. If your not growing your business, then it won?t be long before others take your place. So it is vital to keep current on new information and techniques. You can find up to date information by subscribing to relevant newsletters, podcasts, etc. To stay full apprised of what?s happening in the industry, research all factors of the business.

Never failing to take positive action in your online business is something that can help see you through anything. As with any kind of business, you?ll always have the challenges here and there plus occasional ups and downs. So just accept that it?s a part of business, and when something happens just analyze it and take the action you need to take. Always keep moving forward and never give up, and you?ll see one day that you?re successful more often than not. Realize that you have to put into your business and it will take time to come to fruition. You can achieve all new heights in your business online, so just decide you will be consistent with your efforts.

Internet marketing is a popular online business among today?s entrepreneurs. This is great opportunity for financial success and career fulfillment.

Why Accurate Measurements are ... - What Is Home Improvement?

It can come as no great secret that the perfect tablecloth can only exist if the cloth is measured accurately in the first place. There can be few things more displeasing than seeing oilcloth, pvc or vinyl tablecloths that are either too large or too small, draping poorly over a table.

The result of poor measurements is a table cloth that is particularly unattractive. On rectangular tables, the cloth may hang too long on the ends, and too short along the lengths, while on square tables, all four sides could be too short or too long. An oilcloth tablecloth may hang nicely at the corners, but will look uneven, while a vinyl tablecloth can be less supple and for that reason look more uneven still.

Oval and round tables are even more difficult to measure correctly, and should the measurements be wrong the error will look particularly bad. For all tablecloth venders, whose job it is to cut and hem the cloth itself, getting the right length, width or diameter is nothing short of essential, and for online venders, this is particularly true. The fact is that there are a series of rules and guidelines that need to be applied to if such vital information is to be gathered properly.

A Square Table

It might seem that nothing could be easier than measuring a square table. After all, according to definition, all four sides are the same size. But there is a need to be careful when using the measuring tape. Be sure that the tape end is square with the corner, and that the tape itself is taut and is not slack. This is the only way to get an accurate figure. Measure two sides just to be sure they match, then add an extra 20cms or 25cms per side to facilitate the overhang. Without this extra amount, the cloth will not hang properly, depriving the table of the attractive flowing affect.

Generally, the material comes in a set width, which should be enough to facilitate any normally sized table. This is usually 135cms, which means that only a large table will require something more.

A Rectangular Table

A rectangular table requires the same attention that the square table does, with the added, though rather obvious, factor that there is a long and a short end. These ends should be clearly labelled, and should always be double checked.

In making the measurement, the tape end must be placed square with the table edge and the tape stretched taut along the length, or width. Once these figures are established, add a further 20cms or 25cms on each side for the overhang.

A Circular Table

It is pointless to measure around the edges when measuring a circular table. In fact, it is easier than the process involved in measuring straight edged tables. Simply measure the diameter of the table surface, which is the length directly from one side to the other, and add a further 40cms or 50cms to facilitate the overhang.

The more important factor when carrying out the measurement is to ensure that the tape goes through the centre point of the table. If this is not the case then the measurement will be wrong, providing a slightly smaller diameter than is true, and therefore spoiling the look.

An Oval Table

An oval table requires a little more care since there is a length to consider. However, the process really involves measuring the two separate diameters. The first relates to the width, while the second related to the length. The important thing to remember, of course, is that the line of measurement goes though the central point of the table. Also, remember to add the extra 25cms for the overhang.

Because an oval has no straight sides, like a circle, making the widest point and longest point meet with a curve is then easily achieved. So when the table cloth vender cuts the material, the perfect cut can be achieved and the perfectly draped oval vinyl tablecloth on a long oval dining room table.

Of course, these process relate to all cloths, with oilcloth, pvc and vinyl tablecloths not differing in any way when it comes to getting the right measurements.

(AP) ? Concerns over Wall Street practices and economic inequality that have led to sit-ins and rallies in New York and elsewhere reverberated up to the White House on Thursday, with President Barack Obama saying the protesters are expressing the frustrations of the American public.

Thousands of protesters, including many in union T-shirts, marched the day before in lower Manhattan, joined by labor leaders who say they will continue to support the protests with manpower and donations of goods and services.

The protests have slowly grown in size and attention over more than two weeks, with the president's acknowledgment at a news conference a sign they might be jelling into a political movement.

Obama said he understood the public's concerns about how the nation's financial system works and said Americans see Wall Street as an example of the financial industry not always following the rules.

"It expresses the frustrations that the American people feel that we had the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, huge collateral damage all throughout the country, all across Main Street," the president said. "And yet you're still seeing some of the same folks who acted irresponsibly trying to fight efforts to crack down on abusive practices that got us into this problem in the first place."

He said, though, that the U.S. must have a strong and effective financial sector for the economy to grow, and that the financial regulation bill he championed ensures tougher oversight of the financial industry.

Among some protesters, reaction to Obama's acknowledgment was less than enthusiastic.

"His message is that he's sticking to the party line, which is, 'We are taking care of the situation.' But he's not proposing any solutions," said Thorin Caristo, a 37-year-old antique store owner from Plainfield, Conn.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Thursday police will continue to accommodate the protests "as long as they do it peacefully and in accordance with the laws and regulations."

The vast majority of the protests have been peaceful, "but there's clearly a core group of self-styled anarchists ... who want to have a confrontation with police," said Kelly, who added that the city has spent about $2 million in overtime to police the protests.

The protesters have varied causes and no apparent demands, but have spoken largely about unemployment and economic inequality, reserving most of their criticism for Wall Street. "We are the 99 percent," they chanted Wednesday, contrasting themselves with the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans.

"The great thing about Occupy Wall Street is that they have brought the focus of the entire country on the middle class majority," said George Aldro, 62, a member of Local 2325 of the United Auto Workers, as he carried the union's blue flag over his shoulder through lower Manhattan.

"We're in it together, and we're in it for the long haul."

Ed Figueroa, a janitor in a public school in the Bronx and a shop steward with Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union, said the march was "the first time in these weeks that unions have shown their face."

"But it won't be the last time," he said.

The unions were donating food, blankets and office space to the protesters, said Dan Cantor, head of the Working Families Party. But he said the young protesters would continue to head their own efforts. The movement lacks an identified leader and decisions are made during group meetings.

"They're giving more to us than we're giving to them. They're a shot in the arm to everybody," Cantor said.

Victor Rivera, a vice president for the powerful 1199 Service Employees International Union, which represents health care workers, said the union had donated "all the food they need for this entire week" to the protesters. Union leaders had also assigned liaisons from their political action committee to work with demonstrators.

"We are here to support this movement against Wall Street's greed," he said. "We support the idea that the rich should pay their fair share."

The Occupy Wall Street protests started Sept. 17 with a few dozen demonstrators who tried to pitch tents in front of the New York Stock Exchange. Since then, hundreds have set up camp nearby in Zuccotti Park and have become increasingly organized, lining up medical aid and legal help and printing their own newspaper.

On Saturday, about 700 people were arrested and given disorderly conduct summonses for spilling into the roadway of the Brooklyn Bridge despite warnings from police. A group of those arrested filed a lawsuit Tuesday, saying officers lured them into a trap before arresting them. Video shows officers using bullhorns to try and tell the group to get off the road.

Activists have been showing solidarity with the movement in many cities, including Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle and Providence, R.I.

Several Democratic lawmakers have expressed support for the protesters, but some Republican presidential candidates have rebuked them. Herman Cain called the activists "un-American" Wednesday at a book signing in St. Petersburg, Fla.

"They're basically saying that somehow the government is supposed to take from those that have succeeded and give to those who want to protest," the former pizza-company executive said. "That's not the way America was built."

On Tuesday, CBS reported that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney called the protest "class warfare" at an appearance at a Florida retirement community.

Sprint Differentiates with iPhone Unlimited Data Plans (NewsFactor)

Much ado is being made about Sprint Nextel's move to offer Apple iPhones with unlimited data plans. Although the iPhone 4S has not yet hit the market, Sprint is whetting the appetites of its customer base that may want a less-expensive model with the promise of a $99 iPhone 4 running iOS 5 and an all-you-can-eat data package.

iPhone 4S will be available from Sprint starting at $199.99 for the 16GB model, $299.99 for the 32GB model and $399.99 for the 64GB model, beginning Oct. 14. iPhone 4 will cost just $99.99 for the 8GB model and is available now. The prices demand a two-year contract.

"Our unlimited data plans are the perfect fit for iPhone customers," said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. "Sprint's unlimited data plans provide more value than metered plans from other carriers. Our customers can take advantage of the innovative features of iPhone without worrying about overage charges or surprises on their bill."

Sprint Scores on Pricing

Hesse is not just blowing smoke. AT&T and Verizon Wireless, the two other wireless carriers that offer the iPhone, don't offer an unlimited data package for the iPhone. In fact, AT&T is throttling heavy users on its network. Rolling out the iPhone with an initial unlimited data plan has been the go-to-market strategy for each of the U.S. carriers.

"AT&T and Verizon both offered unlimited plans when they first rolled out the iPhone and then pulled back," said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Gartner. "This unlimited data option may be something that will convince new iPhone buyers to move to Sprint. The one thing about those plans on other networks is early buyers got to keep them, if they wished, and some still maintain those unlimited plans."

As Gartenberg sees it, since the iPhone is selling at about the same price from all three U.S. carriers, the cost of the services may determine which carrier new iPhone users turn to. It could even cause some users with expiring contracts to jump on the Sprint bandwagon.

"The iPhone isn't going to make or break Sprint, but the iPhone is clearly the iconic device. For a lot of consumers who may have been interested in Sprint as a carrier, the lack of an iPhone may well have been an inhibitor," Gartenberg said. "That is no longer an inhibitor. The unlimited data option is definitely a nice way for Sprint to differentiate from the competitors."

Sprint Sings Service

Sprint promises that consumers who choose its unlimited data plans don't have to worry about throttling (slow mobile-broadband speeds) or surprises on their monthly bill due to data overage charges that may occur with tiered data plans from other carriers.

Sprint's plans start at just $69.99 a month plus a $10 premium data add-on charge. Sprint's Simply Everything Plan offers unlimited calling, data and text for $99.99 a month plus a $10 premium data add-on charge. Sprint also offers a Mobile Hotspot option for an additional $29.99 per month that supports up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously.

Beyond its unlimited data plan, Sprint is hoping to turn heads with its customer service. Sprint has racked up a number of accolades, including being named a J.D. Power 2011 Customer Service Champion. Sprint is also the wireless-industry leader in call satisfaction, according to a study from Vocalabs released in January 2011, which tracks the quality of support that customers receive from their providers.

How to Reduce Natural Gas Costs | Alagasco | Energy Efficient ...

As winter approaches, you?ll start using your heat, and your natural gas bill will increase.

There are three things that control the amount of your Natural Gas bill ? usage, weatherization of your home, and weather. Although you can?t control the temperature outside, you can take control of your Natural Gas bill by making a few changes that will make a big difference.

1.?????? Usage

It?s quite simple ? if you use more Natural Gas, your bill will increase. By keeping your thermostat turned down a few degrees during winter months, or off when you leave home for more than two hours, you can save as much as 10 percent on your gas bill. By installing a programmable thermostat, you can set it to automatically turn your unit off while you?re at work and turn back on before you get home. Depending on your family?s work or school schedule, you can see significant savings by sticking with those settings or adjusting them as appropriate. The key is to establish a program that automatically reduces heating and cooling in your home when you don?t need as much.

If you have a tank water heater, by insulating your water heater and lowering the temperature to 130 degrees Fahrenheit or less you can reduce your bill 3 percent to 5 percent.

By converting to a tankless water heater and installing it near the point of use, you can save hundreds of gallons of water a year. And because tankless water heaters only heat water when you need it, it significantly reduces the stand-by energy loss from a traditional tank water heater. Tankless water heaters are 34 percent more energy efficient than the traditional tank unit. You will save water, energy and money. Check out our tankless water heater rebates.

How we use Energy in our home:

Space heating and water heating account for 43% of home energy usage.

?

2.?????? Weatherization

Weatherization of your home also plays a significant role in how much energy you use. In the winter months, a large portion of your Natural Gas bill comes from heating your home. Don?t let that warm air escape.

Simply caulking or weather-stripping your windows and doors can be a cost effective way to improve the energy efficiency of your home. Don?t forget the attic, basement, crawlspace and around electrical outlets.

Seal the leaks in your duct work. Sealing and insulating ducts can improve energy efficiency by 20 percent or more. Accessible ducts, such as those in attics, basements, crawlspaces and garages, can be sealed using a specialized sealant called duct mastic available at home improvement stores (duct tape is not recommended). If you need major duct repair, consult a local heating contractor.

Add more insulation to your home. In most homes, the easiest and most cost effective place to add insulation is in the attic. Inadequate insulation in your attic could be draining as much as 30 to 50 percent of your home?s heat.

Maintain your equipment. One of the simplest things you can do to ensure your heating equipment is operating efficiently is to regularly change your air filter. Check it every month, and replace it if it looks dirty. At a minimum, it should be changed every three months. A dirty filter wastes energy because it prevents air flow.

Another point to consider is the age of your appliances. If you have a Natural Gas furnace that?s more than 15 years old, it may be time to upgrade to a more efficient model. A new, high efficiency Natural Gas furnace could save you up to 20 percent in operating costs.

If your Natural Gas water heater is more than 10 years old, you may want to consider replacing it with a more efficient model. Water heating can account for 15 to 25 percent of a home?s energy use.

3.?????? Weather

While none of us can predict or control the weather, it?s important for us to remember how the weather outside impacts inside temperatures and our Natural Gas bill. The colder it is outside the more our furnace has to run to keep the temperature inside at our desired temperature.

Again, none of us can control how cold our winter will be, but we all do have some control on the amount of our Natural Gas bill.

We hope that you can apply some or all of these simple energy saving tips to start lowering your Natural Gas bill.
